Bendigo Business Council welcomes announcements for Bendigo in a ‘good news' State budget
Yesterday's State budget has been welcomed by the Bendigo Business Council as good news for Bendigo and good news for business.
BBC Executive Officer Kevin de Vries said "Bendigo has been given many reasons to celebrate, and this election year budget is generally positive for business and positive for the community."
"All of Bendigo will be celebrating the announcement of funding for building a new Bendigo hospital; this will provide significant benefits to our community and regional economy."
"We also welcome the Victorian Government's funding of modernisation Bendigo's Senior Secondary College. BSSC is the largest VCE provider in Victoria and it is important that a quality learning environment is available to our region's students."
"The BBC also notes funds for a report into the needs of the legal sector across the State. Bendigo's legal facilities are stretched and this provides great frustration and a compromised working environment for Bendigo's legal practitioners and their clients."
Mr de Vries also welcomed announcement of funding for the regional rail services. "Developing the Regional Rail Link from Werribee to Melbourne will decrease travel times to Melbourne improving services for both regional and metropolitan commuters alike."
The BBC also expressed appreciation for reductions in WorkCover premiums and State payroll taxes. "While we believe that State taxes such as payroll and land tax should have disappeared with the introduction of the GST, we nevertheless welcome reductions in this impost on Victoria's businesses." Mr de Vries said.
