Bendigo Business Council acclaims hospital funding as ‘fantastic'.
The Bendigo Business Council has expressed its delight at the announcement of the Victorian Government's funding of a new hospital for Bendigo.
BBC Executive Officer Kevin de Vries said today "Without doubt, this is the ‘big ticket' news that Bendigo was looking for and our response can be summed up in one word - ‘fantastic'."
"This will be fantastic for the businesses and workers that will design and build our new hospital; fantastic for the dedicated staff and volunteers providing high-quality care for the community; and fantastic for the region with a modern facility drawing people to live, work and invest here."
"Time and again residents and businesses have identified the aging public health facilities in Bendigo as being long overdue for renewal. A new world-class facility will renew a sense of pride in the city's dedicated healthcare workers and will entice medical specialists to live and practice in our region."
Responding to the State Government's commitment of $473 million to build the new facility, Mr de Vries paid tribute to the members of the community, politicians and media who had pressed for a new hospital. "Many notable Bendigonians have campaigned for a new hospital in Bendigo, the City of Greater Bendigo has played an important lobbying role, and the local media has rarely let pass an opportunity to raise the hospital issue. Today's news is a testament to all their efforts."
"Our two local members of State Parliament Jacinta Allan and Bob Cameron must be especially commended for convincing the Treasurer, Premier and Cabinet of the need to support our region's health facilities. The entire community of Bendigo should celebrate this fantastic news."
